The sensible alternative – because change needs more than big words

Many call themselves “alternative”. We take this seriously: yes, fundamental changes need to be made – because politicians too often discuss instead of making decisions. But simply criticizing or staging strength does not solve the problem. Change can only succeed with clear goals, concrete concepts and long-term planning that will still be viable in five and ten years’ time.

We stand for an electable alternative in the political center: courageous enough to make decisions – sensible enough to justify and implement them properly.

Politics is not an end in itself, but a service for the good of us all. We therefore focus on stability, responsibility and a clear version for the future of Luxembourg.

We focus on long-term stability instead of short-term populism. We enable sustainable action through clear rules for political responsibility and the renewal of state structures. This includes the limitation of mandates, the strict separation of national and local offices and a ban on “changing posts” while taking the mandate with you. We call for the direct election of the prime minister and efficient municipal reforms through mergers and an effective “Chamber of Mayors”. We are also strengthening democratic participation through the “Conseil national pour étrangers”.

Commitment is the foundation of our cohesion. Those who take on responsibility deserve recognition and social security. We are sustainably enhancing the value of voluntary work and introducing flexible working models – such as voluntary reductions in working hours without loss of pay for carers and volunteers. A new citizens’ service is intended to promote a sense of community, while improved pension provision ensures that social commitment is also appreciated in retirement.

Trust is created through reliability. We stand for a strong constitutional state that sanctions violations of the rules consistently, quickly and precisely. At the same time, we recognize civic engagement as a valuable contribution to society.

Strong families are the prerequisite for a stable welfare state. We consistently combat child poverty and create framework conditions that make it easier to start a family. We demand real freedom of choice in childcare, tax relief for parents and the opportunity to reduce working hours without financial loss and we want to support clubs that do good youth work.

Growth must serve to maintain our infrastructure and social security. We are committed to controlled growth in order to finance pensions and education in the long term, with fair taxation of labor and capital. We promote innovative companies and strengthen the Greater Region through cross-border cooperation and joint activity zones.

Politics must think beyond election periods. We are calling for a “Future Commission” based on the Finnish model as a permanent parliamentary committee. With regular reports on the future and an early warning system for demographic and economic risks, we ensure intergenerational justice. Straightforward planning in the areas of housing and mobility is essential. Cooperation with experts and citizens will be strengthened by this commission and politicians will be held more accountable.

Education combines knowledge with values. We actively involve parents in teaching values (“Engagéiert Elteren”) and turn schools into places of achievement and orientation. Luxembourgish serves as a central bridging and literacy language in a system that promotes multilingualism and integration.

We secure our country’s independence and intergenerational fairness. Our goals are a stable, innovative pension system and a stronger anchoring of social benefits at home. We are reducing structural dependencies on massive immigration and cross-border work in order to make our system crisis-proof in the long term.
